JUDY MALAMA

Judy  and and her husband Stephen welcomed me

 into their Kitwe home back in 2011.

Judy was a high school teacher, Stephen, a local councillor.

 Both were  well respected members  of the community 

with a strong Christian faith. This was the heart of their desire to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Judy told me a story.

One day at school, one of her pupils approached her..

'Madam' he said 'I have nowhere to go tonight.'

He was a teenager, an orphan as both parents had died of Aids. He had been taken in by relatives, 

but now those relatives were moving elsewhere 

and could not take him with them. 

They had only just told him 

and so he was instantly made homeless. 

And so Judy took him home! 

That is when she realised she wanted to do more for the many children in similar situations.
